Welcome to my blog The Punkin Patch! My little addition to the black blogosphere. I’m new to this whole blogging phonomena and I hope to add an informed and intelligent voice to what is happening in the politics, pop culture, and life in general. A little info about me — I’m over 35
, married, and a mother to a very, VERY busy little girl who is almost 2. I live in Charleston, SC (specifiically North Charleston). I am a southern gurl (shouts out to Erykah Badu) who cooks “Northern” as my mom would say. Meaning, my husband didn’t marry me for my cooking. No smothered chicken, collard greens, chitlins, neckbones, or fried chicken are on any menu I prepare. Now I love to eat it, but I don’t cook it. I’m strugglin to lose this baby weight and trying to find time to be a good wife, mother, and a good person. I still love hip-hop and refuse to believe it won’t return to the greatness of the era I grew up — the late 80s and early 90s.
Politically, I’m a Democrat–although this Democratic congress and senate have totally disappointed me. I’m fairly liberal (pro-choice, affirmative action, get out of Iraq). I believe racism still exists (albeit its more subtle) but I believe that some of the issues facing Black folks can’t all be blamed on “Mr. Charlie”. Anyway, I hope that gives you some idea about me. I welcome all opinions, I may not always agree with you, but I will always “hear” you.
