Old School Friday: Maybe God Is Tryin’ To Tell You Somethin’

Posted by Kim S. on June 20, 2008

There are a number of black bloggers who participate in Old School Friday where they post old school videos based on a specific theme. This week’s theme is gospel/praise/spiritual/inspirational songs (shout out to Marvalus over at The Maravalus View). The song I chose is “Maybe God Is Tryin’ To Tell You Somethin’” from “The Color Purple”. There were so many moments in that movie that made me cry; but the scene where Shug Avery bursts in the church singing her heart out and finally reconciles with her father–”See daddy, sinners have soul too”– I was a blubbering mess. Twenty-three years later, I still get misty-eyed at that scene. And Tata Vega, who was the voice of Shug Avery, put her foot in that song!

Digg!
