Kayne West "Flashing Lights"

Posted by Kim S. on February 14, 2008

Everybody is posting this but I am a huge Kanye fan and this video intrigues and disturbs me. It’s only a trailer for the video and I can’t wait to see the rest. I can’t imagine MTV or BET playing this before 9 p.m. I believe what we’re watching is actually the end of the video and the entire video will show what leads up to this scene. Personally, it looks like every scorned woman’s fantasy. I mean really, what woman hasn’t wanted to tie up her trifling, whoreish, man put him in the trunk, drive out to the desert in a mink and lingere (paid for with HIS credit card) and take a shovel and just……..or was that just me?

Herbie Hancock Album of the Year??? NO! NO! NO! No Grammy for Souljah Boy! YES! YES! YES!

Posted by Kim S. on February 11, 2008

WTF!!!!!!!!! Herbie won Album of the year???? Over Kanye or Amy Winehouse? Come on now. Yes, he’s a jazz legend but freakin Album of the year! As Amy said, NO! NO! NO! The Grammy’s are so random. Brother is 0-3 with this award. They give him awards in every other category, but he can’t get Album of the Year for nothing. He’s like the Grammy version of Susan Lucci. But his performance was excellent. I was tearing up when he did “Hey Mama”. At least Kanye didn’t pitch a fit this time, unlike this after the MTV Awards:

As for the other peformances on the show, I enjoyed Tina and Beyonce although Tina ain’t what she use to be. I was concerned she was gonna fall out from all that dancing. But shoot, isn’t she almost 70? So really, she was excellent. I hope to look that good and be able to keep up with 26 year-olds when I’m here age. Amy was great too, although I thought she sounded a little congested when she would sing “no, no, no” on Rehab. I also loved Alicia’s performance with John Meyer. I stan for John Meyer. “Daughters” is absolutely my favorite song by him. Plus he has a wicked sense of humor which I love in a man. As for the Rhianna and The Time peformance, um….well they could have just let The Time peform and let Ms. Barbados sit down. She added absolutely nothing to that performance. I’ve seen the Time live and they put on a show.

Oh, and a confession, I didn’t actually see all of the Grammy’s last night. Look, I am almost 40 with a 20 month old busy body child. The fact that I stayed awake long enough the first hour was a minor miracle. I actually, caught the clips on You Tube. Thank God for technology!

Grammys and Mommies

Posted by Kim S. on February 10, 2008

Before I became a mom, I never missed the Grammy Awards. However, the last two years its been hit or miss. The night of last year’s grammys I forgot they were on until I happened to turn the TV to CBS. Most evenings my television consists of Elmo DVDs or whatever is on PBS Sprout. This year though, I refuse to miss it. I am so looking forward to see Kanye perform and if they will finally give him Album of the Year. He’s up against Herbie Hancock, Foo Fighters, Vince Gill, and Amy Winehouse. I have Amy’s album (which is fiyah) but the rest of the nominees I couldn’t tell you one song of any of those “albums”. If Amy gets it, I’ll be okay, but if any of the others get it,
I will pitch a Kanye-sized fit. LOL. Seriously, it would be an injustice, and not because of the passing of his mother. For an old-school hip-hop head like myself, Kanye represents the best of what h ip-hop can be. I am so over the ringtone rappers of today. I want lyrics and interesting beats and that is what Kanye provides. And if Soulja Boy wins a grammy for best rap song, I will await the four horsemen of the apocalypse to arrive and take me away.
