Well it looks like Georgia Congressman John Lewis has jumped off Titantic Hillary and hopped on the Obama train. In a statement Lewis said, “I think the candidacy of Sen. Obama represents the beginning of a new movement in American political history that began in the hearts and minds of the people of this nation. And I want to be on the side of the people, on the side of the spirit of history.”
Riiiiight…and I’m sure 90% of African-American voters in Georgia who voted for Sen. Obama didn’t have anything to do with it. That and an Atlanta minister challenging him for his congressional seat. I do sympathize with Rep. Lewis. He and Hillary Clinton have been longtime friends and it has to be really awkward after having publicly endorsed her last year. I can’t imagine what that conversation was like.
And the defections keep coming, black elected officials ranging from Virginia state Sen. Louise Lucas to New Jersey state Sen. Dana Redd to Georgia Congressman David Scott have jumped on the Obama train. Including New Jersey super delegate Christine “Roz” Samuels. With less than a week away from the primaries in Texas, Ohio, Rhode Island, and Vermont more folks could be jumping ship.
